Trivia question: guess how long the Perth 200 anniversary celebration plans have been in the works?
Answer: 200 years.
Okay, fine. Truthfully, it’s been in the works for the past seven years. That’s still a long time!
Since 2008, the Town of Perth staff have facilitated plans with volunteers, crafting ideas and scheduling signature events to make sure the bicentennial is an unforgettable year.
Last year, the Perth 200 Anniversary advisory panel submitted a grant application to the Trillium Foundation to hire someone to help bring these ideas and events to life in 2016. As a result of the successful grant, the Town welcomed Cat’s Cove Communications to the planning team in late 2015.
That’s who’s behind the
pen keyboard on this blog. Why are we telling you this? Because the people behind Cat’s Cove Communications are your neighbours. Well, maybe not literally. But we’re probably a bike ride away from ringing your doorbell and asking to borrow a cup of sugar. Or ice cream.
Cat’s Cove Communications consists of Cathy (McNally) and Toby James. Both Perth natives, Cathy and Toby are so proud to call Perth home. After they left the town limits for university, they returned home where they got married and are now raising two kids.
Toby plays hockey and golf in town while Cathy loves to visit the library or head out for a run around town. We’re a part of this community, which makes us even more excited that we have been granted the opportunity to help organize the Perth 200 events.
So, hi. It’s us.
(insert awkward wave here).
For the next year and a half, we’ll be blogging about the Perth 200 plans as well as incorporating historical tales, proud Perthite stories and anything that represents what this town means to us. Better yet – to you, the reader. We want to hear from you guys about stories from the past, stories from today and stories about Perth. Please send us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We’d love to hear from you.
In the meantime, if you want to make sure you’re all up to date on our blog, you can receive our blog postings via email by signing up at the bottom of the webpage. We promise we won’t send you spam. Or requests for ice cream.
